Rifle/Pistol Level III: Lowlight
Weapons Mounted Light and Handheld Flashlight Techniques and Advanced Application
According to the FBI statistics book, over 70% of all criminal encounters happen during lowlight/no light hours and environments. For those of us in the professional fields and for civilian concealed carry permit holders need to understand and be able to proficiently apply the techniques and tactics behind lowlight weapons mounted lights (WML) and handheld lights.
Pistol 1 focuses on mastering the eight fundamentals of pistol marksmanship under lowlight conditions. We'll be refining sight alignment and sight picture while learning how to properly manipulate your WML and handheld light during the execution of drills, designed to test your weapons manipulation and cognitive thought process. The course is information & content heavy with a fast pace teaching environment. The drills are designed to build on each other with a culmination series of scored drills at the end for a chance at Top Shot.
Rifle I will quickly refresh on the fundamentals of the Pistol 1 course and lead directly to more advanced drills, introducing & applying dynamic movement while shooting under lowlight conditions. We will learn how to work both weapons platforms and transition from primary to secondary systems. We'll also learn how to move & shoot in all respective directions, shoot around obstacles and barricades as well as shooting next to others, around vehicles (if permitted), shooting on the move single hand, moving & shooting in pairs, and negotiating obstacles while shooting, all under lowlight. Most drills will involved your WML but some drills will also require movement and manipulation of handheld lights.
These two days will be full 7-9 hour nights. Typical start time will be an hour to an hour and a half before sunset. (start times will be announced closer to course start date). Regular breaks and an allotted dinner break will be given.
